Fair enough.

Incidentally that's what I had done, effectively had server.cfg settings in wasteland_settings files, and it worked to a point but clearly this isn't the right way to go about it.

i had also overcomplicated using Github instead of getting the release files which made much more sense.

All sorted now using the guide osu_apoc pointed me to and then readme's in the release package.

Moral of the story, RTFM.

Cheers for the help.

Sorry, I get it.

I've been using TADST previously and wanted to do it myself, have mixed up files TADST has created with ones that came with Wasteland.

Thought one had replaced the other but realise now I need both.

I can't see this post being much use to anyone else so will delete to save my embarrassment.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

**Edit ,doesn't seems I can't delete it. I'll be over here, hanging my head in shame if anyone wants me**

Apologies, I'm probably using incorrect terminology.

I've read as much as I could find from various sources (much of it contradictory). I am new to Arma server yes, but not gaming servers generally, but appreciate this isn't your average gaming server.

Yes I was referring to the launch parameters for the server, specifically this:

Afaik you definatly need two different files. states:
Code: [Select]
-cfg=<filename> Selects the Server Basic Config file. Config file for server specific settings like network performance tuning.
-config=<filename> Selects the Server Config File. Config file for server specific settings like admin password and mission selection.

Just to clarify, I think my actual question was:

Which files should these point to in the server launch parameters?

Thanks again.

Ahh right, that's great thanks.

I guess then I should change the shortcut parameter to point at the default_config with wasteland set as the mission but change any actual game settings in the a3wastleand_settings?

I do have a a3wasteland_folder, but now you mention it I'm unsure if I downloaded the 'release' files or just cloned the Github repo.

Probably best to start again huh.

Thanks for replying.

Hosting & Management / Cfg Noob Question

Hi All,

Long time lurker here and around Github, looking to get everything set up on a locally run dedicated server before possibly moving over to a hosted. Plenty of experience running game servers and SQL for work.

Looked all over but can't find a straight answer to a question.

It says in the default_config that it gets overridden by the version in the A3Wasteland_Settings folder. Could someone explain the mechanism these files are called / executed?

If I ad 2 parameters to my shortcut as explained by LouD in this post:

pointing the -config towards the A3Wasteland_Settings folder file, it seems to apply the settings in there ok, but the fact that the default one exists at all suggests I should be pointing the shortcut there, and that in turn would execute the a3wasteland_settings one thereby overriding any duplicates.

That would seem logical but I can't see anything in 'default'  calling the a3wasteland_settings version.

Appreciate I'm probably missing something simple here so any help would be appreciated.

Many Thanks
