Server monetization

« posted: Jan 30, 2015, 03:46 AM »
Hello server owners,

Today, Bohemia have started to allow monetization for registered Arma 3 servers: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?188238-Arma-3-Server-monetization

This basically means that you are now allowed to offer donator perks, if your server is registered with Bohemia.

My stance on the matter is: in a nutshell, the GNU GPL legally allows you to do whatever you want with the mission, as long as the full source code is available from your PBO and/or a website like GitHub. Therefore, you can monetize A3W in any way you want, as long as you follow Bohemia's rules.

However, on this forum, you are not allowed to promote private paid access to an A3W server. Anything directly related to this will earn you a ban. Threads asking for help on how to implement such paid access will be locked.

That being said, I do strongly encourage discussion about implementation of reasonable donator perks, they are a very great way to cut down on server bills.

Well basically, the idea is that people who donate >= $X get slightly better spawn gear and/or money. A lot of players say they would donate more if they could get perks in return. If you want to make it multi-tier, it's up to you.

Guess i will have to register my server with BI then ...

I've been running a "supporter" model for some time, my server pays for itself.. People make donations and for their loyalty I give them supporter kit to start. It's essentially a community run server now with regards to hosting.

I have Basic Supporters, Hardened and VIP supporters.  $25 - $50 - $100+

Starter load outs include bigger backpacks , custom clothing, headgear , rangefinder , custom sidearm, assault rifle with 2 clips.

As the tiers scale I give them slightly bigger / better gear.

Basic - MP5 or other SMG with an ACO / Holo , Bergen , Harnass etc.
Veteran - Assault rifle < 6.5mm , ACO / Holo , Kitbag , GL carrier etc.
VIP - DMR with RCO , 2 clips, Carryall, plate Chestrig , Ghillie ,  etc
Clan Kits are also available with their own customized starter gear and camo.

In terms of P2W, I've limited the scopes and other gear supporters can have. They get a slight BUMP, but nothing majorly OP since most players spawn in with a basic SMG anyways. No rockets , No thermals , No discounts.

Here's a few pics of hte starter loadouts :)
