Lag spikes / fps drops on mission starts

« posted: Nov 24, 2014, 09:53 AM »
Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing lag spikes when ingame missions start. Players on our server are, well not complaining, but telling me that as soon as any mission starts ingame they get a lag spike / fps drop.

It seems that the server needs to read from disk when a mission starts and this could cause the fps drop? I can see the FPSmin on ASM drop when a mission starts. We're running the server on a fast SSD so this could not be the problem.

--EDIT--

As you can see in the images below, just before a mission starts there is disc read action and a FPSmin drop at the same time. This causes a lag spike / fps drop on a client.

Those spikes are from iniDB.

You mean de drops in CPS? Yes that's from IniDB indeed. But I mean the FPSlow drops and DiscRead inscrease at the same time as soon as a mission starts. Is this also cause because IniDB takes up much resources?

No idea. The impact from the mission spikes is so minimal that I don't even understand why you're posting about this.

The impact is large enough for players to experience frame rate drops, no matter how little they look in the server monitor (It's the grey line, but i'm guessing you know that). I'm posting about this because i'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this.
But thanks for you answer :)

The drop only lasts 3 seconds maximum, and it's not something that can be prevented in any way.

It has nothing to do at all with the saving system.

Oh ok didn't realise that as you stated earlier it was iniDB that caused it.

The server lag spikes that you see every 60 seconds are caused by iniDB and have no link to the missions, and the extra lag that happens when a mission starts has no link to the saving system.
